I know I said I wouldn't write blogs strictly about being pregnant and here I am writing yet another one. But the subject of this blog has been something of a surprise to me. I've heard people say that when you're pregnant, there are certain smells you just can't stand, like cigarette smoke. But I'm experincing an aversion to a smell that I has really caught me off guard...garlic. The first time Rocky ate garlic was when he had jalapeno garlic chicken wings from Sports page. At the time, they smelled really good to me and I thought about trying one but I decided not to. Later, when we got home and Rocky slid into bed, we turned to give our goodnight kisses and I got a whiff...oh my gosh. I thought I was immediately going to go into convulsions. I asked him to rebrush his teeth and maybe use some garlic. And maybe even take some soup and wash around the outside of his mouth too. He graciously complied and came back to bed. We tried our goodnight kiss again and I could still smell it. I had to hold my breath to get a quick kiss in and then I turned to the wall and went to sleep. Believe or not, the next evening I could still smell it on his breath. But eventually it went away.
Night before last, I fixed a meal for the first time in about a week. I fixed spaghetti. I called Rocky and asked him to pick up some garlic bread on the way home. As soon as I pulled the bread out of the oven, I knew there was no way I would be able to eat it. And I also knew that if Rocky ate it, it was going to drive me crazy. But he loved garlic bread, especially with spaghetti. Sure enough, after dinner he went to kiss me and I smelled his breath. Nothing but garlic. And it's not just that it smells, but the smell makes me feel like my skin is on fire. I actually feel a burning sensation all over. So, once again, I'm back to holding my breath to get my goodnight kisses. For now, we've banned garlic from our menus. Although it's one of our favorite spices, it's not worth it if I can't get my goodnight kisses.
