I have to admit, this blog originally started as a blog strictly about our pregnancy. But not only did I find it hard to find new and interesting things to write a about a 9 month long event, but I realized that so many other things occur in our lives that are worth writing about. So, after 2 weeks of blogging, I deleted most of my posts and started over.
Let me begin by telling you that Rocky and I were married in May 2009 on Oak Island beach at sunrise. About 55 of our closest family and friends attended. At the reception, Rocky's Dad offered a toast to "lots and lots of Grandbabies". How little did he know that his wish was about to be granted.
Soon after the wedding, everyone was asking us when we were going to have children. Because we wanted to enjoy marriage before becoming parents, we told everyone that we would start trying in a year. But a fate would have it, that tide was already starting to turn. First, Rocky's sister announced that she was expecting. She has a son and baby would make two. The baby is due in January. Then, a couple we know, in which the guy works with Rocky, welcomed their baby girl in June. Rocky and I went to see them in the hospital. She was cute as a button. So it was early July when Rocky and I set out on our own journey to conceive.
On July 18th, Rocky was taking a quick catnap before a family cookout at his parent's. I was about to take a shower when I decided to take a pregnancy test. This was the 3rd test that week and I was actually testing before the "suggested waiting period" so I didn't expect what was about to happen. The test was a digital test that would simply read "pregnant" or "not pregnant". So after 2 minutes of waiting, I opened my eyes and read..."pregnant". Oh my gosh! I ran into the bedroom and started tapping Rocky on the shoulder..."Rocky, Rocky, Rocky". He finally opened his eyes and I thrust the test in front of him. "Look" I said. He looked at the test, then at me, then back at the test. I said "do you know what this means?" He responded "I'm pretty sure it means in 8-9 months we're gonna have a kid." And with that, he grinned and went back to sleep.
It's one thing to think about becoming pregnant but it's something completely different to read that your actually pregnant. All sorts of things go through your mind...what have I done?!?...I'm gonna get fat!...I'm gonna be sick...I'm gonna have to start cleaning out the junk room...sweet, I'll get to stay out of work?...dang this is gonna hurt! Then reality starts to set in and you quickly reel your mind back in. First, call the doctor. You need to confirm that you're pregnant and see if everything is okay. Second, breathe. Breathe again. Breathe some more. Now, go get ready, you have go to a family cookout and you can't let anyone know yet. WHAT?!?
